Meetings start at 8 pm, apart from those associated with the St Albans festival.
We have some additional pub nights, so it is always worth phoning up someone to find out what's happening.

St Albans Festival, 2008, 21st June - 6th July

Saturday, 21st June at 7.30pm  – Poetry Reading by David Constantine 

David Constantine
As part of St Albans Arts Festival, David Constantine will be reading from recent and published work - Collected Poems (Bloodaxe) 2004.  David Constantine is a celebrated poet and translator, who lives and works in Oxford. He was born in Lancashire in 1944.  He has won the Alice Hunt Bartlett award for poetry, and, more recently, the European Poetry Translation prize. He is currently working on a translation of Goethe’s Faust, for Penguin Books.

Ver Poets - Open Mic

Thursday 26 June at 7.30pm - White Hart Hotel (Holywell Hill) - Open Mic - Free
Come along and read your favourite poem (perhaps one of your own) and listen to the verse of our members and all comers.  Important - Would you limit your initial reading to 5 mins max.

Saturday, 05 July at 2.30pm – Maltings Arts Theatre - Open Adjudication and Readings - Free

Maggie Butt
Ver Poets present a lively afternoon featuring award winning poet Maggie Butt, who will read poems from her first collection, Lipstick. Maggie Butt is the Head of Media at Middlesex University, London, where she has taught Creative Writing since 1990. She lives in North London with her husband and two daughters.  She will also present prizes and give her report on Ver Poets' annual Open Poetry Competition. Readings of prize winning and short-listed poems from local young poets will follow.
 
Ver Poets are supporting Open Door and the Chair of their Trustees will be present to receive the cheque.
