Ver Poets

Ver Poets - Open Mic

This was held at the White Hart Hotel (Holywell Hill)  A selection of local poets read their poems and and listen to the verse of our members and all comers.  This event was well attended and we had a range of poems, fascinating in the range and scope of styles and genres covered.

Ver Poets - Maggie Butt - Open Adjudication

Maggie Butt with one of the competition winners in the interval. On 5th July, Ver Poets presented a lively afternoon featuring award winning poet Maggie Butt.

Maggie read poems from her first collection, Lipstick.

Maggie Butt is the Head of Media at Middlesex University, London, where she has taught Creative Writing since 1990. She lives in North London with her husband and two daughters.

Maggie also presented prizes and gave her report on Ver Poets' annual Open Poetry Competition. Readings of prize winning and short-listed poems from local young poets followed.  Over 50 people attended this event, in the Maltings Arts Theatre, and 16 prize winning poets and young writers read their poems.

Ver Poets are supporting Open Door and the Chair of their Trustees was present to receive a donation from the profits of the competition.
