Blank Inside
In the local Post Office somone's playing Russian roulette;
spinning the carousel of cards then stopping it.
And there, between the empty chambers of 'birthday' and 'get well soon',
lies 'sympathy'.
The brutal frankness! Yet no one's shocked by what they portend -
as plain as circling vultures - for someone near.
They will get bought.
Like stamps or Sellotape it's built into the business model of this branch.
In a life lived backwards these cards would be contracts
waiting for the tearful killers to sign.
